Multiple sources have reported OKBET MMA Fighting that John Lineker was disqualified from his first defense of the ONE Championship championship on the scale Thursday night in Malaysia because he weighed in at above the bantamweight limit.
It was planned for “Hands of Stone” to defend his title against Fabricio Andrade this coming Friday in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, at ONE on Prime Video 3. The fight will go on as planned, but Lineker will have to forfeit 20% of his winnings. Andrade, should he prevail, will become the new bantamweight champion, replacing Lineker, who is now ineligible to do so.
In ONE Championship’s unique method, rehydration is prohibited. 145 pounds is the ONE bantamweight cutoff. Although he weighed in at 145.5 pounds, Lineker passed the hydration test, as originally reported by SCMP. He came back a few hours later, chubbier than when he left (145.75).
Manager Alex Davis said to MMA Fighting that when a fighter doesn’t make weight at ONE, “he goes back to square zero because he needs to make weight and pass the hydration test.” Lineker was unable to accomplish either. Because his bedroom scale was lighter than the official one, he made that error. The hydration test must be passed again before you are given a second chance to make weight. He just couldn’t pull it off.
It’s a little tough to have two opportunities to make weight in three hours. This is the policy, and we will adhere to it. Fabricio agreed to the match, and we’ll evaluate John’s status after the bout.
